In this tutorial you will approve requests to join a space in Jetonomy. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Set the policy to Requires Approval. See how a member asks. Open Join Requests. Approve or deny. Then know what a policy change does. Step one. Set the policy to Requires Approval. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Spaces, and click Edit under the space. On the General tab, find Join Policy. It has three choices: Open, Requires Approval and Invite Only. This space, Insiders Beta, is on Requires Approval. A tab called Join Requests is added to a space with this policy. Step two. See how a member asks. Now sign in as a member who is not in the space, and open it. The page says the space is private, and that an admin reviews each request. The member can add a short message, which is optional, and clicks Request to join. This tutorial types a message and does not send it. After sending, the member sees that the request is awaiting approval, and can withdraw it until someone decides. Step three. Open Join Requests. Back in the admin, edit the space and click the Join Requests tab. The number beside its name is how many are waiting. Here, two. Each row shows who is asking, the message they wrote, and how long ago they asked. Step four. Approve or deny. Approve adds the person to the space with the role Member, and sends them a notification. Deny turns the request down, and the person is notified of that too. Both buttons act at once. There is no second question, so this tutorial does not click them. Step five. Know what a policy change does. If you change Join Policy while requests are waiting, saving the space settles them for you. On a public space, change it to Open and everyone waiting is let in. Change it to Invite Only, and every waiting request is denied. A private space, like this one, keeps asking for approval even on Open. That is all five. The policy set to Requires Approval, the request seen as a member, Join Requests opened, approve or deny, and what a policy change does. You now decide who joins, one request at a time.
