In this tutorial you will add a box that starts a new topic to any page of your site, with Jetonomy. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are four steps. Add the Compose Topic block. Choose picker or fixed. See it as a member. Then see it signed out. Step one. Add the Compose Topic block. In your WordPress admin, open the page in the editor and click the Block Inserter, the plus button at the top left. Search for Jetonomy Compose Topic, and click it in the results. In the editor the block is a sketch of the box. The working form is printed on the page itself. A shortcode, jetonomy compose topic, prints the same box in other editors. Step two. Choose picker or fixed. Select the block, and its settings are in the sidebar. Mode has two choices: Space picker, where the member chooses, and Fixed space. With Space picker, the member chooses which space the topic goes to. Choose Fixed space, and a new field appears: Space I D. Type the number of one space, and every topic from this box lands there. The number is the space I D in the address bar when you edit that space. Leave it empty, and the box goes back to the picker. Allowed types can stay as it is. Then click Save, at the top right. This tutorial leaves the page as it was. Step three. See it as a member. Here is a page with the block in Space picker mode, open as a signed-in member. The first field is Post to space. It lists the spaces this member has joined and is allowed to post in. No other space is offered. Then a title, the content, and a tick box to make the topic private. Post topic, at the foot of the box, creates the topic in the chosen space. This tutorial does not click it. Step four. See it signed out. A visitor who is not signed in gets no form. The same block shows a card called Join the conversation. Its button, Sign in to post, opens the login page and brings the visitor back to this page afterwards. So the box is safe on a public page. That is all four. The Compose Topic block added, picker or fixed chosen, the box seen as a member, and the sign-in card seen signed out. Members can now start a topic from the page they are already on. Next in this series: Add the community to your site.
