In this tutorial you will set up your Jetonomy community on the General tab of its settings. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Set the address and title. Rename the words. Choose how names show. Set the page sizes. Make it public or private. Then see it as a visitor. Step one. Set the address and title. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Settings. The General tab opens first. Community Base URL is the word that follows your site address. If you change it later, links to the address you had before are sent on to the new one. Community Title is the main heading on your community home page. Step two. Rename the words. Under Terminology you can rename Space, Topic, Reply, Member and Category, each in singular and plural. For example, type Forum and Forums beside Space. Leave a field empty to keep the usual word. Step three. Choose how names show. Member Names has three choices: Display name only, Handle only, or Both. Two members can share a display name. A handle is unique, so choose Both if you want names that can always be told apart. Below it, Default Space Type sets which type is selected for you when you add a space: Forum, Q and A, Ideas or Feed. Step four. Set the page sizes. Under Pagination, Topics Per Page starts at twenty, and Replies Per Page at thirty. Each can go up to one hundred. A smaller number gives shorter pages and more page links. Step five. Make it public or private. Under Access Control, Public community lets anyone read. Visitors must log in to post, reply or vote. Private community hides everything from people who are not signed in. They are sent to the login page instead. Then click Save Settings. The new choice applies from the next page a visitor opens. Step six. See it as a visitor. This community is public, so someone who is not signed in can open a space and read its topics. To take part they need an account. The card in the sidebar lets them log in or register. That is all six. The address and title, the words renamed, how names show, the page sizes, public or private, and the visitor view. Your community now has its address, its name and its front door. Next in this series: Choose what each role can do.
