How to compare the edits to a topic in Jetonomy, step by step: open Revisions, find an edited topic or reply, open its history, view the diff between two saved copies, and bring back older text by hand.
Transcript
In this tutorial you will compare the edits to a topic in Jetonomy, to see what it said before it was changed. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open Revisions. Find an edited topic. Open its history. View the diff. Then bring back older text. Step one. Open Revisions. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Revisions. When a topic or a reply is edited on your site, Jetonomy first keeps a copy of the text as it was. This screen lists every topic and reply that has such a copy. One caution. An edit you make yourself with Edit on the Content screen of the admin is not recorded here. Step two. Find an edited topic. Each row shows the title, how many copies are kept in the Revisions column, when it was last edited, and by whom. A row that starts with Reply to is an edited reply, named after its topic. To narrow the list, choose Topics or Replies here, set a from and a to date, and click Filter. Step three. Open its history. Click the title of the topic. This topic has two revisions. Each row is one saved copy: the text as it stood until the member under Edited By changed it, on that date. The bottom row is marked Original. It is the oldest copy kept, so there is nothing to compare it with. Step four. View the diff. On a newer row, click View diff. Previous, on the left, is the older copy. This revision, on the right, is the copy on this row. Words added in between are highlighted in green, here a sentence about the size of the community. The text is shown with its formatting tags. The newest copy is the text before the latest edit. What the topic says today is on the topic itself. Step five. Bring back older text. This screen is read only. There is no restore button. To put older wording back, copy it from the Previous column, open the topic, and edit it. That edit is kept as a new copy, so the history stays complete. Back to all revisions returns you to the list. That is all five. Revisions opened, an edited topic found, its history opened, the diff read, and older text brought back by hand. You can now see exactly what changed in any edited topic. Next in this series: Ban or silence a member.
