How to set who can read and post in Jetonomy, step by step: choose a public or private community, set a space's Visibility and Join Policy, set Who Can Post, and see a private space as a member who has not joined.

Transcript

In this tutorial you will set who can read and post in your Jetonomy community. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Choose a public or private community. Set a space's Visibility. Set its Join Policy. Set Who Can Post. Then see a private space as a member. Step one. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Settings. The Access Control card is near the bottom of the General tab. Public community is the default. Anyone can read, but visitors must log in to post, reply or vote. Private community locks every page. Only logged-in members can view anything. Everyone else is sent to the login page. Choose one, then click Save Settings. Step two. To lock one space instead, open Spaces and click Edit under it. On the General tab, set Visibility. Public means anyone can find and read it. Private means signed-in people can find it, but only members can read it. Hidden means only members can find it. Step three. Set Join Policy. Open lets any signed-in person join at once. Requires Approval sends a request to the space team. Invite Only needs an invite link. A Hidden space is always Invite Only. Jetonomy switches it for you. Then click Update Space. Step four. Open the Settings tab of the same space. Who Can Post narrows it further: anyone who can see the space, Members Only, Moderators and Admins, or Admins Only. Who Can Reply has the same choices, except Admins Only. Require Approval holds new topics and replies until a moderator approves them. Then click Save Settings. Step five. Now see it as a member who has not joined. A private space is listed, with an Approval required label. Open it, and the topics stay locked. The page says the space is private, with a box to ask to join. That is all five. Public or private community chosen, Visibility set, Join Policy set, Who Can Post set, and a private space checked as a member. The right people can now read and post, and nobody else. Next in this series: Handle reports in the moderation queue.
