In this tutorial you will add a moderator to a Jetonomy space, and learn what each space role can do. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Open the space's Members tab. Know the four roles. Promote a member. Add someone new. Archive or lock a space. Then see who manages the space. Step one. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Spaces. Click Edit under a space, then open its Members tab. Everyone who has joined the space is listed here, with a Role list beside each name. Step two. Know the four roles. A Viewer can only read. A Member can post, reply, vote and report. That is what people get when they join. A Moderator can also edit, close, pin, move and remove other people's topics in this space, and work its moderation queue. An Admin can also manage the space itself. These roles belong to this one space. A moderator here is an ordinary member everywhere else. Step three. Promote a member. Find them in the list, and change the Role beside their name to Moderator. There is no Save button. The change is saved the moment you pick it, and it applies the next time they load a page. Every space keeps at least one admin. This space has one, at the top of the list. Try to change the last admin, and Jetonomy refuses. A message says to promote someone else first, and the Role list goes back to Admin. Step four. Add someone who has not joined yet. Under Add Member, search for them by name or email. Pick their role in the list beside the search box, then click Add. They skip any join request or approval. Step five. Archive or lock a space. On the General tab, Status has three choices: Active, Archived and Locked. Archived and Locked both stop new topics and replies. Everything already posted stays readable. Set it back to Active and posting works again. Then click Update Space. Step six. Now see it as a member. On the space page, the Managed by card lists the people who run the space, each with a role label. A new moderator shows up here, so members know who to ask. That is all six. The Members tab opened, the four roles explained, a member promoted, someone new added, a space archived or locked, and the managers seen as a member. Your space now has someone to look after it. Next in this series: Create a space from the front end.
