Transcript

In this tutorial you will send forum events to another app, with webhooks, in Jetonomy. You need Jetonomy Pro, with its Webhooks extension turned on, an administrator account, and an address in the other app that accepts web requests. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Turn on Webhooks. Enter the address. Choose the events. Get the signing secret. Then watch for failures. Step one. Turn on Webhooks. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Extensions, and find the card called Webhooks. Turn its switch on. It is on already here, so this tutorial does not click it. Nothing is sent anywhere until you add a webhook. Step two. Enter the address. Open Jetonomy, then Settings, and click Webhooks, under Advanced in the settings menu. Under Add Webhook, paste the address your other app gave you into Payload URL. Jetonomy sends a web request there each time one of your chosen events happens. Step three. Choose the events. There are thirteen. Six are for topics and replies: created, updated and deleted. The rest are a new account, a trust level change, a vote, a report made or resolved, and a member joining or leaving a space. Tick at least one, or the webhook is refused. Leave Active ticked and click Add Webhook. What is sent is short: the event name, the time, and details such as the topic title and its author. The text of a post is not sent. Step four. Get the signing secret. Jetonomy makes a secret for each webhook when you add it. To read it, click Edit on its row. The Edit Webhook form shows a line called Secret. It is hidden in this recording. Copy it into your other app. Every request carries a signature made with it, so the app can check the request came from your site. Step five. Watch for failures. The list shows each webhook with its events, its Status, when it was Last Triggered, and its Failures. This one is Disabled, so nothing is sent to it. A request fails when the other app does not answer within fifteen seconds, or answers with an error. It is not tried again. After five failures in a row, Jetonomy sets the webhook to Disabled. To restart it, click Edit and tick Active again. That is all five. Webhooks turned on, the address entered, the events chosen, the signing secret found, and failures watched. Your other tools now hear about the forum as it happens. Next in this series: Put your own brand on the admin.
