How to tidy up your tags in Jetonomy, step by step: open the Tags screen, sort and search the list, add a tag before anyone uses it, rename a tag everywhere at once, and delete one tag or several.

In this tutorial you will tidy up the tags in your Jetonomy community: add one, rename one, and delete one. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open Tags. Find a tag. Add a tag. Rename a tag. Then delete a tag. Step one. Open Tags. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Tags. Tags are one list for the whole community. The table shows each tag, its slug, and under Topics, how many topics carry it. Step two. Find a tag. Click a column heading to sort by it. Click Topics, and the least used tags come first. The search box finds a tag by name, and the list beside Bulk actions shows twenty, fifty or a hundred tags per page. The number under Topics is a link. It opens that tag on your site, with every topic that carries it. Step three. Add a tag. Members create tags as they write topics. You can also add one here before anyone has used it. Type its name. Leave Slug empty, and Jetonomy builds it from the name. Then click Add Tag. Step four. Rename a tag. Point at a tag, and click Edit under its name. The Edit Tag dialog opens. Change the name, and it changes on every topic that carries the tag, in every space. The slug is the last part of the address of the tag page. Change it only if you must, because old links to that page stop working. Then click Update Tag. Step five. Delete a tag. Click Delete under its name. If topics still carry the tag, Jetonomy tells you how many, and asks you to confirm. Deleting a tag takes it off those topics. The topics themselves stay. To remove several at once, tick their boxes, choose Delete under Bulk actions, and click Apply. There is no merge. To fold a misspelled tag into the right one, put the right tag on its topics first, then delete the wrong one. That is all five. Tags opened, a tag found, one added, one renamed, and one deleted. Your tags now stay short, clear and free of doubles. Next in this series: Handle a personal data request.
