How to help search engines read your community in Jetonomy, step by step: set the title templates for topic and space pages, keep schema markup and the XML sitemap on, choose which pages stay out of search results, set the handle and image used when a link is shared, and check your sitemap.
In this tutorial you will set up how search engines read your Jetonomy community, on the SEO tab. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Set the page titles. Keep schema and the sitemap on. Choose what stays out of search. Set how links look when shared. Then check the sitemap and save. Step one. Set the page titles. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Settings, then the SEO tab. Title Templates sets the title a browser tab and a search result show. Topic page title is for a topic page. It starts as the topic title, the space name, then your site name. The words in curly brackets are tokens, listed under each field. Jetonomy swaps them for the real names. Space Title works the same way for a space page. Step two. Keep schema and the sitemap on. Schema Markup adds discussion forum data to topic pages, so a search engine knows it is reading a discussion. XML Sitemap includes community pages in the WordPress sitemap. Both boxes start ticked. Step three. Choose what stays out of search. Noindex asks search engines to leave a page out. Two boxes start ticked: user profile pages, and search result pages. Untick one if you want those pages to be found. Personal and admin pages, such as notifications and the moderation queue, are always left out. Step four. Set how links look when shared. Type your site's handle into Twitter slash X handle. Leave it blank to leave it out. Default share image is the picture used when a shared page has none of its own. Left empty, your site logo or icon is used. The last card is Social Embeds. Links from most video and music sites turn into players with no setup. Instagram and Facebook need a free Meta app, and the card lists the steps. Step five. Check the sitemap and save. Beside Verify SEO, Open XML sitemap shows the sitemap of your site, so you can confirm your spaces and topics are listed. A new space can take a few minutes to appear there. Then click Save Settings at the bottom of the tab. That is all five. Page titles set, schema and the sitemap on, the pages kept out of search chosen, sharing set, and the sitemap checked. Search engines can now read your community the way you want. Next in this series: Stop spam with a CAPTCHA.
