How to choose what each role can do in Jetonomy, step by step: open the Permissions tab, read the Role Capability Mapping grid, learn what each WordPress role starts with, give a role a capability or take one away, and tune the reputation points each action is worth.

In this tutorial you will choose what each WordPress role can do in your Jetonomy community. You need the free Jetonomy plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Open Permissions. Read the grid. Know the starting point. Give a role a capability. Tune reputation points. Then save. Step one. Open Permissions. In your WordPress admin, open Jetonomy, then Settings, then the Permissions tab. The tab starts with trust levels and the limits on new users. Scroll down to the card called Role Capability Mapping. Step two. Read the grid. Each row is one capability, something a member is allowed to do. Each column is a WordPress role on your site. A ticked box means that role holds that capability, everywhere in the community. There is no Administrator column. Administrators always hold every capability, so you cannot lock yourself out. Step three. Know the starting point. A Subscriber can read, post, reply, edit and delete their own posts, vote, report, join spaces and upload media. Contributor and Author add nothing more. An Editor also holds the moderating set, such as Moderate, Close topics and Pin topics. Roles added by other plugins, such as Customer here, start with nothing ticked. Their members still take part through the spaces they belong to, and saving this tab does not change that. Step four. Give a role a capability. To let every Author moderate the whole community, tick Moderate in the Author column. To take a capability away, untick its box. Nothing changes for your members until you save. Step five. Tune reputation points. The last card sets how many points each action gives or takes away. An upvote on a post gives ten points. A reply accepted as the answer gives fifteen. A post removed by a moderator takes twenty. Type a new number in the Points column. The Default column keeps the original beside it. Step six. Save. Click Save Settings at the bottom of the tab. The grid and the points are stored together. One thing to know. If you give a role from another plugin some boxes, then later clear them all and save, its members can no longer read or post in any space. This tab then shows a notice above the grid, with a button that gives those members access to their spaces again. Click it, and they are back in through the spaces they belong to. Only an administrator can change the role grid. Anyone else who can open these settings sees a padlock in its place. That is all six. Permissions opened, the grid read, the starting point known, a capability given to a role, reputation points tuned, and saved. Each role in your community now does what you decided.
