A private inbox that lives inside your community
Public discussion is only half of a real community. The other half is the quiet one-to-one conversation, the introduction, the follow-up question, the “can you help me with this” that members do not want to post in the open. When your site has nowhere to hold that, it happens on email and social DMs, and every one of those threads is a relationship you no longer own.
Private messaging gives members a real inbox on your own site. They open a direct thread with one person or pull several people into a group thread, and messages appear in a clean, mobile-ready conversation view with unread badges and a short refresh so a reply feels immediate. Nothing leaves your database, and nothing depends on a third-party chat service.
Notifications that bring people back
A message no one sees is a dead conversation. When a new message lands, the recipient gets an unread badge on the site and in the mobile app, and, based on their own notification preferences, a native push and an entry in their email digest. That is what turns messaging from a feature into a reason members keep coming back.
Each member stays in control of their own inbox. They can mute a noisy thread, archive one that is finished, leave a group they no longer follow, and block anyone they do not want to hear from, all without affecting how the conversation looks for everyone else.
Safe by default, with admin oversight
Open messaging is an invitation to spammers, so Jetonomy gates it. Starting a new conversation requires a minimum trust level, which members earn through genuine participation, so brand-new accounts cannot blast strangers. Blocking is one tap, and a blocked sender simply cannot reach that member again.
For the site owner, a Conversations oversight page in the admin gives moderators a window into messaging without turning it into surveillance, so a report can be actioned and a bad actor removed before a private channel becomes a problem.
