When everyone needs to see it

Jetonomy gives you two pin tools for two different jobs. A space pin holds a “start here” thread at the top of one forum, and any space moderator can set it. A community announcement is for the message that cannot afford to be missed, a maintenance window, a major release, or a rule that applies everywhere, and it sits at the top of every space at once.

The distinction matters because scope and permission differ. A space pin reaches only the people who visit that space. A community announcement reaches everyone, no matter which space they are browsing, which is exactly why the power to create one is reserved for administrators.

Admin-only by design

Community announcements are gated behind the manage_options and jetonomy_manage_spaces capabilities, and jetonomy_manage_spaces is granted only to the Administrator role by default. A moderator who can pin topics inside their own space still cannot create a site-wide announcement, because an announcement affects every space in the community. Keeping that power with admins is deliberate, not an oversight.

Once the extension is enabled, a Pin to community button appears in the action bar of every post for administrators. Click it and the post is featured immediately: it rises to the top of every space’s listing above that space’s own topics, its header and its listing entries carry a green Announcement badge, and the button flips to Unpin from community. A post can be both space-pinned and a community announcement, in which case it wears both badges.

A small set, kept meaningful

You can hold up to 5 community announcements at once. Reach the limit and pinning another asks you to unpin one first. That cap is the point, not a limitation: if everything is an announcement, nothing is, so the slot stays scarce enough that members learn an Announcement badge is worth reading.

Removing one is a single click on Unpin from community. The post drops back to its normal position everywhere and loses the Announcement badge, while any separate space pin it had is left untouched.
